Foundation Friday: Sherman County Community Foundation

It was another edition of Foundation Friday on the Good Neighbor Hour, and Tina with the Sherman County Community Foundation joined the show to discuss things that have happened throughout the summer for the Foundation.


First thing is first, Tina discussed a new intern that they have had this summer. Tina mentioned how good of a job she has done this summer and how much of a help she has been. You can see a lot of her work through social media, such as videos and other things like that.


The next item that Tina brought to the show was a new round of grants that they released for the second quarter. These grants went to various entities throughout Sherman County, totaling just over $24,000. Below are the entities that received a grant, the amount they received, and what it will be used for.


Northwest Kansas District Free Fair - $2,000 - This request is on behalf of Jaron Smades for his Eagle Scout Project, which is a shade structure at the fairgrounds. His is fundraising for additional funds.


Fort Hays Tech Northwest - $3,250 - This request is for a new mural on campus.


Sherman County Rural Fire Department - $3,846.86 - This grant request is for 28 new fire helmets.


Goodland Activities Center - $5,000 - This request is for new entry doors for the facility.


High Plains Museum - $10,000 - This grant is for a mural on the outside of the museum on the west wall.


There was also a new fund that Tina wanted to Highlight, which was the Quick SPARK Fund. SPARK stands for Supporting Possibilities and Reaching Kids. The Quick comes from a teacher at North Elementary in Goodland, Karen Quick. Tina had lots of great things to say about Karen and what this fund means for the area.

"She is just all about the kids, so we created this fund, with her help, and basically what it's going to be is whatever her and her committee wants it to be."

This can range from helping a student or students with school supplies, helping a family with a pool pass, or anything else that may support students.
