In the afternoon of Wednesday, May 6th, a threat to Oakley USD 274 schools was made, causing the schools to lockdown.
A press release has been sent out by the Oakley Police Department detailing the incident.
"On May 6, 2026, the Oakley Communications Center received a call regarding concerning comments and social media posts made by one of the caller’s co-workers about Oakley schools and the community. Once suspect information was obtained, officers located the suspect and his vehicle at his residence in Oakley, but he took off on foot and refused to speak with officers.
At that time, all Oakley Schools were notified and a brief shelter-in-place ensued. Extra officers were stationed around the schools at the time of dismissal. Officers were able to make phone contact with the suspect, with the help of family members, and he came back to the residence and was placed in custody without incident.
The suspect was arrested without having presented any physical danger to the schools or the public. Suspect was never on school property or in the vicinity of the schools at any time and these appear to be threats made to co-workers and on social media only. Suspect was transported to the Thomas County Jail on suspicion of Criminal Threat and interference with law enforcement and public schools.
The investigation is ongoing. Suspect is innocent until proven guilty."
