Randy attended Colby Public Schools and then worked in construction. Clarence Alfred Denning, 80, of Colby, passed from this earth into the hands of the Lord on June 11, 2025, at Swedish Hospital in Englewood, Colorado. He was born on April 30, 1945, in Hays, Kansas to Alphonse and Clara (Hoff) Denning. After graduating high school in Gorham, KS, he joined the United States Army where he was a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War. Clarence married the love of his life, Marilyn Dinkel on August 21, 1965.

Doran Neil Lorimer, 94, of Atwood, died Thursday, May 22, 2025. He was born in Atwood, KS on August 26, 1930, to Irving “Dewey” and Laura (Ohlson) Lorimer. Dorn was raised on the family farm near Beardsley, KS and attended country school through the 8th grade. He later took over the farm when his parents retired. Indoor plumbing and telephone service were added in the following years. Doran enjoyed spending his weekends hunting or fishing and loved spending time outdoors.

Pete Merjil, 60, of Colby, died Saturday, June 7, 2025. He was born August 27, 1964, in Los Angeles, CA to Peter and Jaunita (Miller) Merjil. Pete had worked at Commercial Sign for 33 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and watching sports, especially when the Raiders were playing football and the LA Lakers or Golden State Warriors played basketball. Charles Henry Huelsmann, 86, of Grinnell, died Wednesday, May 28, 2025. He was born September 21, 1938, in Oakley, KS, to Henry and Louise (Baalman) Huelsmann. Charlie graduated from Grinnell High School and went on to serve in the United States Army. He spent his career working for the Grinnell schools as a custodian and bus driver and was a dedicated member of the alumni.

Donald Scott Phillips, 65, of Colby, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. Don was born on July 12, 1959, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Melvin and Joanna (Howe) Phillips. Don was the youngest of three children, and they were raised on a farm in Rush County, Kansas where it was early to rise to feed the animals and where he learned to appreciate nature. Don attended and graduated from La Crosse High School with the class of 1977.

Emily Jane Vincent, age 88, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025 surrounded by her family at Greely County Hospital in Tribune, KS. Emily was born on January 26, 1937 in Goodland, KS to Vernon Elmore Vincent and Francis Louise (Goebel) Vincent. She attended and graduated from Brewster High School in 1955.

Elaine Heussman, 88, of Atwood, died Sunday, May 25, 2025. She was the first-born daughter of Fred and Grayce Stute and was born in her grandmother’s home in Haigler, Nebraska, on February 18, 1937. She would later be joined by 4 sisters: Carol, Judy, Cathy, and Lori. Two brothers died in infancy.

James Lee Bartlett, 90, of Colby, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2025. He was born June 21, 1934, in Ft. Morgan, CO, to Lee and Marguerite (Dornon) Bartlett. Jim grew up on a farm southwest of Monument, KS with his granddad Frank Dornon. He was a 1952 graduate of Monument High School, where he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. Jim also enjoyed hunting and fishing his whole life.

Darrel Eugene Wark was born May 17, 1937, on the farm northwest of Rexford, KS that his grandparents homesteaded. He passed away on May 25, 2025, at Citizens’ Medical Center in Colby, KS, with his wife, Valerie (Flipse) of 69 years by his side.
