This 4th of July, the United States of America will be celebrating 250 years of independence, so celebration this year is going to be incredible. But why not celebrate a little early? In Brewster, they are doing just that this weekend, June 13th and 14th, at Hunter Park.
Lynn Fullwider, a Brewster Heritage Board Member, came on the Good Neighbor Hour to talk about the weekend's festivities.
The day will get started bright and early at 8 am with the Stars, Stripes and Strides Fun Run. If you would like to register for that, visit brewsterbetaclub.org
After that, 10 am marks the beginning of the main bulk of items and activities, and it all starts with a presentation of the flag by the Color Guard, the playing of the National Anthem, and a reading of the preamble.
After that, plenty of things get underway, including the Show and Shine. Fullwider explained a little bit about what the Show and Shine is.
"We encourage people to bring their boats, their bikes, their cars, campers, whatever they're proud of. Shine them up and bring them in...there's no entry fee."
From 10 am till 2 pm, many other items will take place, including Live music, dunk tanks, corn hole, multiple demonstrations, a costume contest, and a few others. Then in the middle of those festivities is a noon meal which is free will donation.
A parade will then take place around 2 pm, which will then lead to Hudson's Arena, which is west of Brewster, for a small rodeo from 3 pm to 5:30 pm. Many things will happen in the rodeo as well, including mutton busting, goat tying, barrel racing, pole bending, and boot racing.
Following the rodeo around 6 pm will be a free will donation dinner. That still doesn't end the evening though, as a free live concert will be held by the Tresgrassers, a blue grass band from the Wichita area. That will go until 9 pm, and then a street dance will take place till midnight with Warren Cummings.
Fullwider had only great things to say about Cummings.
"We'll have a street dance with Warren Cummings...hopefully everyone has a great time and we'll have a great turnout."
Sunday doesn't bring quite as many activities, but there will be a union church service with the Brewster Methodist church, Our Savior's Lutheran church, and the Brewster Community church beginning at 10 am. After the service, there will be a community potluck dinner.
Everyone is encouraged to bring your own lawn chair.
You can listen to the Good Neighbor Hour every weekday, from 5:30 am to 7 am Mountain, on Rockit 102.5 KLOE.
