Around 2:20 pm on Thursday, July 16th, multiple people were involved in a two-vehicle accident involving a semi hauling a trailer full of corn. This accident took place on Highway 83 in Logan County.
The vehicles involved included a 2007 Peterbilt Tractor (Semi Truck), driven by 49-year-old Juan Hernandez of Garden City, Kansas, and a 2025 Toyota Rav4, driven by 43-year-old Besa Xani of Astoria, New York, with other occupants including 49-year-old Shpend Xani and a 4-year-old girl both also of Astoria, New York.
Both vehicles were traveling Southbound on Highway U83. Just North of Jayhawk Road, the Toyota signaled and slowed down to turn East. The Peterbilt then veered left to try and avoid the Toyota, striking the car on the driver's side. The trailer attached to the semi tipped over, spilling corn on the road.
Hernandez had complaints of pain, while everyone in the Toyota was taken to the Oakley Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Everyone was wearing a safety restraint according to the Kansas Highway Patrol - Online Crash Logs.
Traffic was backed up both ways before moving traffic through one lane for about an hour.
Below are more pictures that came from listeners who were stuck in traffic or driving past the accident.
