Kanorado, Kansas

Stanley Gordon Pettibone, 96, passed away at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska on July 19, 2026. He was born on May 6, 1930 to Joseph E. Pettibone and Edith W. Youtsey in Grant Township, Sherman County Kansas.
After graduating from Kanorado High School in 1948 Stan attended Trinidad Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado, earning an associate of arts degree in 1950. Stan was a lifetime farmer and rancher.
On April 23, 1951 Stan married the love of his life, Martha Bandel, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodland, Kansas. The couple enjoyed 75 years together. To this union they had 3 children: Greg, Jay, and Kim.
Stan was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 1528, was a Dekalb seed dealer for many years, served on the Kanorado Coop Board of Directors for several years and was on the Sherman County Fire Board for 37 years. Stan was a long-time member of the Kanorado Methodist Church.
Together Stan and Martha raised pugs, miniature schnauzers, and west highland terriers, which they both enjoyed very much. In retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling, taking the time to visit relatives and friends along the way. (There was no such thing as a stranger; Stan would talk to anyone that had time to visit.)
Stan is survived by his children: Greg (Sally) Pettibone of Kanorado, KS, Jay (Janell) Pettibone of St. Francis, KS, and Kim (John) Morton of Brule, NE, his 7 grandchildren, and his 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, parents Joseph and Edith, 2 brothers, Kenneth and Hurlburt and 1 sister Ardith.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kanorado Methodist Church or to the St. Francis Lions Club and can be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home: 211 N Main Ave, Goodland, KS 67735.
