What began as a theft in Colby on May 13, 2025, escalated into a dangerous and fast-moving situation that stretched across Thomas and Sherman Counties, ending with the arrest of a 23-year-old Colby man now facing a slate of serious charges.

Beneath clear skies and crisp spring winds, Dennen Field in Colby came alive Friday as middle school athletes from across northwest Kansas gathered for a full day of competition and camaraderie. The annual Colby Middle School Track Meet brought together teams from more than a dozen schools—Hays, Goodland, Weskan, Hoxie, Wallace County, Grinnell, Brewster, and others—for what proved to be one of the most competitive meets of the season.
