Northwest Kansas went from dangerous triple-digit heat to blowing dust, damaging winds, and heavy rain on July 27. A semi overturned near Mingo, grain bins and trees were damaged south of Mingo, blowing dust reduced visibility near Oakley, and up to 4 inches of rain fell near Atwood. The National Weather Service is reviewing the Mingo damage, and more strong storms with damaging winds are possible again today.

Strong thunderstorms brought damaging winds up to 79 mph, heavy rain, and widespread damage across northwest Kansas Thursday night. Colby was among the hardest-hit communities with downed trees, flooded basements, and more than 3 inches of rain reported in parts of town.
