Collyer Man Seriously Injured in Trego County I-70 Accident

Trego County, KS (June 21, 2025) — An 81-year-old man from Collyer was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in an accident along Interstate 70 in Trego County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at 1:15 p.m. at milepost 126.2 westbound — approximately 1.7 miles west of the K-238 exit. The crash report states that a 2026 Volvo semi-tractor, traveling westbound, passed a legally parked vehicle on the shoulder but was unable to change lanes due to traffic. As it passed, the semi struck a pedestrian who was standing partially in the roadway.
The pedestrian, identified as Philip Buchholz, 81, of Collyer, Kansas, sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to Trego Hospital for treatment. No further information on his condition has been released at this time.
The driver of the semi, Kostiantyn Tikhov, 39, of Lakewood, Colorado, was not injured. He was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the crash. The vehicle, a Volvo tractor pulling a 2022 CIMC trailer, is registered in Kansas and insured by Evenston Insurance.
There was no indication of a hit-and-run or police pursuit, and the crash remains under investigation.
