GOODLAND, KS -- The ninth-ranked Goodland Cowgirl volleyball team welcomed GWAC foes Cimarron and Holcomb to the Max Jones Fieldhouse on Thursday night and came away with a split.
In their first match of the day GHS made quick work of Cimarron cruising to a pair of wins over the Bluejays, 25-10 & 25-16 improving the Cowgirls to 5-0 against league foes.
Goodland would have to wait close to three hours for their second match against a scrappy Holcomb team who entered the contest at 16-5 overall.
The Cowgirls continued their solid play taking set number one 25-21 and then would lead 23-19 in set two before Holcomb would close the set on a seven-to-one run and win 26-24, forcing a decisive set three. It was just the fifth loss set of the season for GHS.
In set three the teams went back and forth before Goodland pushed its lead to 23-15. But the Lady Longhorns would once again go on a big 9-0 run to come from behind and take the win, 26-24.
The loss for Goodland was just their second of the season and their first to a GWAC team. Cowgirls are now 17-2 overall and 5-1 in league games heading into this coming Saturday when they will play in a tournament in Great Bend.
