Daryl Meyer, age 71, of Colby KS, passed away on August 26th, 2026.

Daryl was born on September 21, 1954, in South Dakota to Wilbur and Avis (Steiner) Meyer. He grew up alongside his siblings, Ronnie Meyer, Donna (Tom) Russell, Cindy (Brian) Beard, Teresa (Lonnie) Lewis, and Terry (April) Meyer, who shared in the memories and experiences that shaped his early years. Throughout his life, he was known for his hardworking nature, love for his family, giver of his time, and his faith. He had a special way of making those around him feel loved and welcomed, and he didn’t know a stranger.

Daryl enjoyed playing baseball and wrestling in high school, even getting second at state wrestling one year. Daryl graduated from Faulkton high School in 1972. Following graduation, he worked as a farm hand for Hogg Brothers until moving to Colby in 1977. Daryl worked for Kenny Poland for 11 years and then for Saddler Farms for 35 years until he retired from farm work.

Daryl married Tammy Bauhs in 1972. With this union they had two sons, Corey (Rhonda) Meyer of Kansas City and Robbie (Sara) Meyer of Menlo KS.

Daryl increased his family when he married Marilyn Kersenbrock in 2004, who has three children, Cheri (Jim) Bartlett of Topeka, KS, Terri (Eric) Graffeo of Lutz, FL, and Mike (Shawna) Kersenbrock of Colby, KS. Daryl has 14 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends who were blessed to share in his life.

When he wasn’t working, one of Daryl’s greatest passions was hunting. He looked forward to hunting season and the opportunity to spend time outdoors. For him, hunting wasn’t always about what he brought home, it was about the early mornings, the quiet moments, the stories that came afterward, and the time spent with the people beside him. Those trips created memories that his family and friends will hold onto for years to come.

As much as he loved the farm and the outdoors, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. They were his greatest pride and joy. Daryl especially enjoyed the grandkid’s events, and with 14 of them, it kept him very busy. He was someone they could depend on, someone they could learn from, and someone whose love could be felt even when it wasn’t spoken aloud. Through his example, he taught those around him the importance of working hard, keeping your word, taking care of the people you love, and appreciating the life you have been given.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ron Meyer.

Visitation will be at Baalman Mortuary on Wednesday September 2, 2026, from 5-7 pm in Colby, KS. A memorial service honoring Daryl’s life will be held on Friday September 4, 2026, at 10:30 am at Celebration Community Church in Colby, KS. His work on this earth may be finished, but the seeds he planted—in the ground and in the hearts of those he loved—will continue to grow for generations. He was deeply loved, he will be greatly missed, and he will never be forgotten.
