Dixie Marie Fields


Dixie Marie (Black) Fields of Menlo, KS passed away November 17, 2025. She was born on August 5, 1955, to Carl Duane and Darlene Faye (Larson) Black.


She grew up in Oberlin, Kansas and graduated from Decatur County High School in 1973.

While still in high school, she was introduced to the love of her life, Richard Fields, by his best friend, Phil Wurm. They married on December 14, 1973. To this union were born four children.


Dixie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was always the caregiver. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for more than 30 years. She loved taking care of the residents at Prairie Senior Living complex until her retirement in 2020. She also took great pride in caring for her son, David, following his accident in 1998.


Dixie loved animals. She took great joy in caring for her dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, and goats.


Dixie was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents Carl and Darlene Black, infant sister Carla, and brothers Ronnie and Terry.


She is survived by her daughters, Tina (Tom) Benson and Deanna (Matt) Schmidtberger; sons, Erik (Masha) and David Fields; grandchildren, Chance (JB) Benson, Tell (Jeri) Benson, Mo Jallow, Jaeger Thompson, Jake Thompson, Mishaela (Harry) Stipe, Jonah (Jaymee) Thompson, Job (Molly) Benson, Gabby Miller, Ricky Miller, Jayde Hastings, Ryker Schmidtberger, Ian Kramer, Seth Carlson, Elisa Fields and Thatcher Fields; 17 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren.


The memorial service is at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, with burial in Beulah Cemetery and luncheon to follow at The Gathering Place.
