Fatal Crash Reported West of K23 in Sheridan County


A 70-year-old Hoxie man was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 24 in Sheridan County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.


The crash was reported at approximately 10 a.m. Friday, August 21, on U.S. 24 at mile marker 85.9, about four miles west of K-23.


According to the KHP crash log, a 2014 Kenworth truck was traveling eastbound on U.S. 24 when the driver attempted to turn left into a parking lot. The truck turned in front of a westbound 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle, which then struck the passenger side of the truck.


The motorcycle’s driver, identified as 70-year-old Michael Mast Roe of Hoxie, was pronounced fatally injured. KHP reported that Roe was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. His body was taken to Mickey Leopolb Funeral Home.


The driver of the Kenworth, identified as 52-year-old Luke D. Smith of McDonald, was reported to have no apparent injuries.
