Goodland City Commission July 6th Meeting Recap

Kent Brown 7-7-26

The Goodland City Commission held their regular meeting on Monday, July 6th, so Goodland City Manager Kent Brown joined the Good Neighbor Hour to discuss important notes from the meeting.

The first item of importance from the meeting was a MOU from Prime Craftsman Homes. This MOU would allow for the first steps of investigation be taken by Prime Craftsman Homes and the City of Goodland to see if a housing project would suit Goodland. This costs $37,500 from the city and the same amount for Prime Craftsman Homes. City Manager Brown mentioned where these funds are coming from:

"They had some money that was designated for commercial buildings to be torn down, and we didn't have to do that, at least not currently...So they went ahead and used that money to sign the MOU with Prime Craftsman Homes."

Next, Brown mentioned that the South water tower in Goodland will be repainted, inside and out. They took the bid from Maguire Iron, and they will start the painting project sometime in the fall.

Another item of importance included a discussion that the commission had about the use of electronic vehicles. These electronic devices include things like electric bikes and electric scooters. Brown noted the numerous inquiries regarding these devices:

"There's a number of complaints regarding those types of vehicles, the ages of the folks riding those vehicles, whether they're following traffic laws, other various complaints and whether the city should have additional actions."

City Manager Brown also wanted to highlight a discussion about adding a stop sign at 16th and Wyoming. The reasoning being that there have been multiple accidents and worries about safety when coming off of K27.

Brown would also like to continue to urge people to only water their yards during certain times of the day, particularly during the heat of the day to get the best use out of the water. Usage is of course up, so be mindful of the city's water supply.

The last item of note from City Manager Brown was about the final Park n Play Concert event, which will be on August 14th. You can see and visit with city employees as they will be helping and volunteering with that event.

The next regular meeting for the Goodland City Commission will be Monday, July 20th.
