Goodland Superintendent Bill Bierman says the school district is kicking off a series of informational meetings today on the proposed Career Technical Education (CTE) building. The project will go before voters in early November.

Community Meetings Today

The first big round of meetings is happening, Monday, in the Goodland High School auditorium. Sessions will run every hour on the hour from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., aligning with parent-teacher conferences. Each presentation will last about 30 minutes, followed by time for questions.

Bierman emphasized that these meetings aren’t just for parents—the entire community is invited. “It’s a great opportunity for anyone in Goodland to come learn about the project, ask questions, and see what’s at stake,” he said.

Alongside the auditorium presentations, FFA students will be available at the current Career and Tech Ed building to show visitors firsthand the challenges with the aging facility. Issues like failing plumbing, electrical problems, and outdated infrastructure are part of why the district is pursuing a new facility.

Why a New Building?

The existing CTE building is more than 50 years old and increasingly difficult to maintain. Frequent plumbing problems, tripped breakers, and structural limitations have highlighted the need for a modern facility.

The new building is planned for the open lot west of the high school, where the district has gradually cleared property over the years. Bierman said the board decided that building new was more cost-effective than trying to renovate the outdated facility.

The Financial Picture

One of the biggest surprises? Bierman said the project won’t raise taxes. In fact, district taxpayers could actually see a decrease. “It’s going to be odd for us to build a $4 million facility and the taxes don’t go up—but that’s the reality of how this project works,” he explained.

What’s Next

Beyond today’s kickoff, more informational meetings will be scheduled throughout the fall, with details posted on the school district’s website and social media. Bierman also invited community groups to reach out directly if they’d like him to present to their organization.

“We just want people to be fully informed before they vote in November,” Bierman said.
