Goodland USD 352 Board of Education Recap

Bill Biermann Interview 6-23-26

The Goodland USD 352 Board of Education held a regular meeting on Monday, June 22nd, so Bill Biermann joined the Good Neighbor Hour to go through the important items from said meeting.

The first important item Biermann wanted to highlight was a grant opportunity that was presented to the board. The presentation came from Sherman County Communications Director Crissy Ridnour, which would provide for mapping of the buildings for the benefit of the schools and first responders.

"They will come in and digitally map our buildings. That'll be a great resource for dispatch, the police department, and sheriff's department to have in regard to a crisis plan, crisis management, and things going on."

While everyone that works in the school system already has something like this for their use, this will provide for more collaboration between the school district and first responders when it comes to emergency situations.

Next, he mentioned that they closed out the budget from this last school year. Overall, he said that they ended the year pretty good budget wise, so much so that they have considered retention bonuses for USD 352 staff.

The discussion then moved to the process of next year's budget, which 0f course is well underway. Biermann noted a workshop that he attended regarding the budget which gave him plenty of information, including any updates that come from the State of Kansas Legislative Session this last winter. He then gave a bit of a timeline as to when this process is expected to be over.

"We'll be working on that through the whole month of July and try to have that tight and wrapped up by the third week in July. Then we'll try and present the budget and the revenue neutral rate at our second meeting in July."

Biermann was then very excited to announce that the school district has hired a new band teacher who will bring promising things to the band program. He is very excited for where the program can go, especially with how it's been growing the last few years.

The last item he mentioned was in regard to the purchasing of a new bus per state guidelines. One of the districts budgets has approached the legal timeline of usability, so they will soon be looking to purchase a new bus.

The next regular meeting for the Goodland USD 352 Board of Education will be Monday, July 13th.
