USD 352 Goodland Schools Athletic Director Marty Lehman joined the Good Neighbor Hour to talk about the end of the 2026 fall sports season for Goodland Jr. Sr. High School, as well as look forward to some huge events coming up for the winter sports season.

First off, Lehman complimented the fantastic fall sports season each team had.

  • The football team finished with a 5-4 record with first time head coach Dax Ruhs, producing a fantastic season with many high points.

  • As for volleyball, they finished making it past the regionals round before falling to GWAC foe Holcomb at Substate.

  • The golf team qualified for the state tournament, bringing in multiple state medals.

  • Tennis had an outstanding season, sending a couple to the state tournament.

  • Cross Country improved greatly throughout the season and competed at their regional meet

After discussing the tremendous success from the fall sports teams, it was time to talk about the beginning of winter sports. The junior high actually held their huge wrestling tournament over Halloween weekend, totally 571 matches on 6 mats throughout the day. It was a huge success and Lehman wanted to thank everyone who took time out of the Halloween to help.

There are two other massive winter sports events coming up in Goodland, which is Topside Tipoff, the early season basketball tournament, and the Holiday Classic, their large wrestling tournament. The Topside Tipoff committee has been meeting for about 2 months now and they are very excited for yet another tournament, which consists of Goodland, Norton, newly added Weskan, McCook (NE), Ulyssess, Colby, Burlington (CO), and Wray (CO).

As for the Holiday Classic, the two day tournament will take place on the last Friday of the first semester and the Saturday after. Friday will be the girls' Holiday Classic, with Saturday being the boys' Holiday Classic.

Lots of great things are coming up in the sports world at USD 352 Goodland schools, so make sure to get out and support the Goodland Cowgirls and Cowboys!
