Goodland Volleyball Sweeps Sub-State, Heads Back to State for a Third Straight Year

GOODLAND, KS -- For the third straight year, the Goodland Cowgirl volleyball team will head to Hutchison to compete in the state tournament.

GHS blew threw its sub-state bracket at the Max Jones Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon sweeping the competition. The Cowgirls entered the postseason as the sub-state favorites, being the number one seed, and looked the part.

Goodland defeated the eighth-seed Scott City in its first match of the afternoon sweeping the Lady Beavers, 25-10 & 25-12 behind a solid performance from junior Jaxi Mitchek.

GHS would then face the four-seed Norton in the semifinals and again swept the Bluejays in straight sets, 25-17 & 25-18.

The win advanced the Cowgirls into the sub-state title match against Cimarron, who entered the sub-state as the number seven seed but upset #2 Lakin & #3 Holcomb on their way to the championship match.

But GHS proved to be too much as they swept the Bluejays in convincing fashion 25-11 in both sets led by senior middle Lindsey Cure who had one of the better performances of her career.

The three victories improved the sixth-ranked Cowgirl's overall record to an impressive 36-3. They will enter the 2022 3A State Tournament with the third-best overall record only behind Nemaha Central & Riverton.

The first matches of the 3A State Tournament are set to begin at 3:30 (CT) from the Hutchison Sports Arena.
