A 64-year-old man from Jetmore was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash along U.S. Highway 50 on the evening of Tuesday, May 13.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:36 p.m. just west of the U.S. 50 and U.S. 56 junction near mile marker 125. The driver, identified as Francisco Erives-Serrano, was traveling westbound in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road.
Investigators say the pickup continued westbound through the ditch and struck a concrete culvert, causing the vehicle to go airborne. It then crashed into the opposite side of the culvert, and Erives-Serrano was ejected as the vehicle came to rest.
Emergency responders transported the driver first to St. Catherine Hospital before he was flown via air ambulance to Wesley Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries. Authorities noted that Erives-Serrano was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The vehicle sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene by Bailey’s Towing. The Silverado was insured through Dairyland Insurance. No other vehicles were involved, and there was no indication of a police pursuit or hit-and-run. The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.
