K-23 in Sheridan County reopens to traffic

The Kansas Department of Transportation has reopened K-23 to through traffic between I-70 and Hoxie.

The route was previously closed for reconstruction of a 6-mile portion from County Road 70S (CR-406) to Walnut Avenue in Hoxie. Project work involved full-depth reconstruction of the pavement into a 30-foot paved surface with 3-foot turf shoulders, as well as replacement of the Sand Creek and South Fork Solomon River bridges.

Construction crews will remain in the area through the end of November to complete final work and cleanup. Motorists are reminded to buckle up, follow the speed limits and stay alert behind the wheel.

The $19 million project is the first modernization project under the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program to be completed in northwest Kansas.
