The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) has released the 2025 Kansas Crime Index Report. The report compiles crime statistics reported to the KBI by state and local law enforcement agencies throughout Kansas.

Total crime analysis

The 2025 Kansas Crime Index Report indicated that the crime index rate was the lowest reported in 57 years. This is the number of all index crimes per 1,000 people. Total index crimes have continuously declined since 2023. Total index crimes, in 2025, decreased 19.7% from the 10-year average in Kansas.

Violent crime analysis

In 2025, violent crime in Kansas increased by 7.5% from 2024. A total of 13,588 crimes were reported for the offenses of murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault and battery. Violent crime in the state was 7% above the 10-year average.

In 2025, 122 murders were reported, which was 19.2% below the 10-year average, and 4.3% more than in 2024. The increase in violent crime was largely due to an 8.5% increase in aggravated assaults and batteries. These were 15.2% over the 10-year average.

Property crime analysis

In 2025, property crimes decreased 8.3%, and dropped 24.8% below the 10-year average. Property crime offenses counted for this report are burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft and arson.
