A Newton man, Hunter D. Miller, has been sentenced to life in prison following his conviction on serious child sex crimes involving a victim under the age of 10. Miller was found guilty by a jury in April 2024 on charges of rape of a child less than 14 years of age and aggravated criminal sodomy. These offenses reportedly occurred between December 2021 and March 2022.
On May 2, 2025, Judge Jason Lane sentenced Miller to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for at least 25 years. Prior to sentencing, Miller's request for a new trial was reviewed and subsequently denied by the court.
The case first came to authorities' attention when the young victim courageously disclosed Miller’s actions to counselors at Heart 2 Heart Child Advocacy Center, which played a crucial role in supporting the victim and assisting law enforcement in the investigation. Miller was arrested shortly after this disclosure on March 3, 2022.
Upon eventual release, Miller will be subject to lifetime parole with electronic monitoring and must maintain lifetime registration as a sex offender.
Prosecutors worked closely with the Newton Police Department and Heart 2 Heart Child Advocacy Center to secure justice in this disturbing case. Their combined efforts highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in supporting young victims of crime and ensuring thorough investigations.
This sentencing sends a clear message regarding the severity of crimes against children, reinforcing the community’s stance on holding offenders fully accountable while providing a pathway for healing and justice to survivors.
