Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Peggy Bahe, 89, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Highland Park Assisted Living in McCook, Nebraska.

Peggy Lou Bahe was born on June 9, 1936, in Calhan, Colorado, to George and Doris (Tyler) Kanuch. She completed Kindergarten in Calhan, Colorado, before her family moved to Goodland, Kansas, in 1942, where Peggy started school in the 1st grade. She graduated from Sherman Community High School in May of 1954.

On August 1, 1954, Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Wilmer Bahe, at the Lutheran Church in Goodland, Kansas. After Wilmer enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 8, 1956, they moved to Orange County, California where they were stationed. After Wilmer received an Honorable discharge from the United States Army, they returned to Goodland in August of 1958, with their son Randy.

In 1962, they welcomed their second son, Terry. In the spring of 1964, Wilmer and Peggy leased some farm ground and Peggy was very much a part of the setting of the farming operation. Peggy never worked outside of the home, but they worked side by side as they began farming, starting out with only $100, a crank tractor, and each other. Their daughter, Denise was born in 1965. Later, as their family grew, and Randy and Terry got older, Peggy became less involved in the farming operation, but always had an interest in it until Wilmer retired from farming in 2009. Together they grew a successful 45 year farming operation with the help of the whole family.

Peggy taught many years of Sunday School and Bible School, served on the Hospital Auxiliary Board, and coached her daughter Denise’s Summer softball teams. She served as Secretary Chairperson for the Sherman County Alumni Association for many years. Peggy loved spending time in her small vegetable garden, always had a beautiful flower garden, and loved working in the yard. Peggy and Wilmer spent countless hours watching their two sons wrestle in High School and College, and watching their daughter play volleyball and basketball in High School and College. They never missed being at their childrens’ activities, and continued that same support of their grandchildren in their activities as well. You could always find them in the stands cheering their family on. Peggy also enjoyed fishing and camping, doing crafts, crocheting blankets, cheering for the KU Basketball team and the Los Angeles Dodgers, and spending time with their grandchildren. She always made the holidays very special with a day full of baking cookies, making cinnamon candy, popcorn balls, decorating for Christmas and having a family baking day and listening to Christmas music. Peggy loved her family and her precious dog, Misty.

Both Wilmer and Peggy had an amazing Faith in God, even throughout the troubled times, and they rarely missed a Sunday in church before their health became an issue to where they could not attend. Even when Peggy was told last July that she would not make it through her hip replacement surgery, she told her kids that she was not afraid, and it was in God’s hands. She came through with flying colors, and the first words she said to her children when she got into the hospital room after surgery and recovery was that “this would have been our 71st wedding anniversary today”. No matter how challenging the times that she was facing with her illness were, Peggy remained very positive throughout the whole process, never complaining, and always wanting to talk about her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She always enjoyed getting videos and pictures from everyone to brighten her day.

In the nearly 4 years at Highland Park, Peggy made numerous friendships with the community of caregivers who all adored her orneriness and teasing personality. Peggy had a special friendship with her friend, Lori at the facility. Ironically, Lori was at Highland Park because she was able to get into the Dialysis Center for her dialysis treatment in McCook only due to Wilmer’s passing opening a spot for her to receive dialysis. Lori visited Peggy regularly, and they also communicated back and forth by texting each other. Lori was able to be with Peggy when she left this earth to enter into Heaven’s Gates.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Wilmer Bahe, her parents, George and Doris Kanuch, sisters Carolyn Martin and Pat Lamb, her brothers in law Robert Lamb and Jim Jaspersen, her in laws William and Nannie Bahe, sisters in law Denelda Tyrrell, Tamara Bahe, and Opal VanDonge, as well as brothers in law Chuck Tyrrell and Loren Bahe. Also preceding her in death was her granddaughter, Brandi Bahe.

Peggy is survived by her children Randy (Kathy) Bahe of McCook, Nebraska, Terry (Linda) Bahe of Goodland, Kansas, and Denise (Danny) Archer of Goodland, Kansas. Also surviving her are 8 grandchildren, Bryce Bahe, Blayze Bahe, Brett Bahe, Brook Bahe, Brenae Paxton, Whitney Larson, Ashley Townsend, and Levi Archer. In addition, she is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, Nolan Bahe , Rayanne Bahe, Adilynn Bahe, Lawson Bahe, Brylee Bahe, Coplyn Paxton, Bodie Larson, Layton Larson, Rowdy Larson, Letty Larson, Harper Townsend, and Laney Townsend. She is also survived by her sister, Charlene Jaspersen, of Parker, Colorado, her brother in law Tom Martin, of Rescue, California, and many nieces and nephews.
