On 7/7/2026 at about 4:37pm Colby Dispatch received noticed of an injury accident at 990 S. Range Ave in Colby Kansas where a passenger car had driven into a building. Emergency Services including Colby Police Department, Colby Fire Department, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office and Thomas County EMS, and S&M Towing responded to the scene.
The vehicle, a Chevy Impala was inside the building at 990 S. Range and had gone completely through the exterior wall. There were no people inside the suites at 990 S. Range that were affected at the time of the accident.
Emergency services were able to pull the vehicle out of the building to get the only occupant, the driver, out of the vehicle and transported to the hospital for medical care.
Contact was made with property owners about the building damage. There was significant apparent damage to 2 suites at 990 S. Range along with the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation indicates the driver was northbound on Range Avenue, came across the southbound lanes of traffic, jumped the curb crossing a grassy divider on the west side of the road just north of the intersection with Poplar Street. The vehicle then struck and entering the building at 990 S. Range. At this time the cause of the unstable situation leading to the accident is still under investigation.
