Congressman Tracey Mann of Kansas’s Big First District offered a packed legislative update this week as the U.S. House of Representatives returned to session. With a focus on honoring law enforcement, combating retail crime, protecting veterans, and boosting rural economies, Rep. Mann reaffirmed his commitment to securing a stronger future for Kansas and the country.
Honoring Heroes During National Police Week
In recognition of National Police Week, Mann praised the courage and sacrifice of law enforcement officers. “They run toward danger when others run away,” he stated. Mann strongly opposed efforts to defund or diminish law enforcement and reiterated his commitment to standing with those who protect Kansas communities.
Fighting Crime and Fraud
Mann emphasized recent efforts to combat organized retail and supply chain crime, including his cosponsorship of the Combatting Organized Retail Crime Act. This bipartisan measure would establish a new coordination center within Homeland Security to enhance federal, state, and local cooperation.
Additionally, Mann supported the Veteran Fraud Reimbursement Act, allowing the VA to quickly restore benefits to veterans who fall victim to scams. “It’s shameful that anyone would target our veterans,” Mann said.
Supporting Agriculture and Tax Relief
Mann spotlighted the work of the House Agriculture Committee to identify budget savings and push back against bloated federal spending. He warned that if the 2017 tax cuts are not extended, Kansas families could see an average tax hike of $2,200. He linked this concern to broader efforts to advance former President Trump’s economic policies, emphasizing the need for fiscal discipline and certainty for farmers and ranchers.
Boosting Aviation and Air Safety
With Kansas a major hub for aviation, Mann introduced the Air Traffic Control Workforce Development Act, aimed at closing the skills gap and modernizing the nation’s air traffic systems. The bill expands FAA training initiatives, supports mental health resources, and ensures the safety of America’s skies remains a top priority.
Championing Military Spouses and Gold Shield Families
In continued advocacy for military families, Mann backed the Military Spouse Hiring Act, which encourages businesses to hire spouses of service members. He also cosponsored a resolution recognizing Gold Shield Families—the loved ones of fallen first responders.
District Meetings and Local Advocacy
Back in Kansas, Mann met with a variety of stakeholders including the Kansas Hospital Association, the Beef Alliance, and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association. Topics ranged from preserving rural hospitals and protecting the 340B drug program, to securing agriculture’s future and implementing FAA reauthorization.
Visiting the Nation’s Capital
Mann also invited Kansans to visit Washington, D.C., offering his office’s assistance in arranging tours of the Capitol, White House, and other landmarks. “One of my favorite parts of representing Kansas is hosting folks from home,” he said.
Conclusion
From legislative votes to community meetings, Rep. Mann’s week underscores his focus on conservative governance, rural revitalization, and unwavering support for law enforcement and veterans. As he puts it, “I do not serve to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America—I serve to fight and work to make it stronger.”
