Hello, car enthusiasts and fun-seekers alike!
It’s that time of year again—time to dust off your classic rides, stretch those leg muscles for some serious watermelon devouring, and prepare for the automotive event of the year. The 2nd Annual Gram Cam Slam is rolling into Hill City, Kansas, and it’s promising to be bigger, better, and even more fun than last year!
A Little History
First things first, let’s talk about the brains behind this operation. I had the pleasure of chatting with Phyllis, who, in addition to being a dedicated board member and the Secretary/Treasurer for the Grand County Auto and Art Museum, clearly knows how to throw a car show with pizzazz. Phyllis's been involved since the museum's inception and is the go-to for all things Graham Camm Slam.
Weekend Line-Up: Buckle Up!
Friday, September 6: We kick off the festivities with a cruise night at T-Bose Corner. Expect food vendors, live music, and a street dance that might just turn into a full-blown dance-off if the mood strikes. The fun starts at 6:30 PM, so get ready to groove and nosh on some seriously good eats.
Saturday, September 7: The main event is where things really heat up. Starting early, we’ve got a full day planned:
- Craft and Vendor Show: Start your day exploring unique crafts and vendor booths.
- Car Show: Last year, 77 fabulous vehicles showed up. We’re hoping for even more this year. So polish up your chrome and get ready to shine!
- Hot Wheel Contest: At 11 AM, it’s time for the Hot Wheel contest where kids show off their miniature rides. If you’re looking for some entertaining, pint-sized thrills, don’t miss this.
- Watermelon Eating Contest: At noon, prepare for a juicy spectacle. Contestants will be wrestling with watermelons, and we’re all here for the splat-tacular fun!
- Car Limbo Contest: At 1 PM, let’s see just how low those lowriders can go. This is where the limbo meets the car show!
- Burnout Contest: Things will get a bit smoky at 2 PM with the burnout contest. It’s your chance to see some serious RPM action and enjoy a little tire-squealing excitement.
Sunday, September 8: Don’t pack up too quickly—there’s more fun to be had! Join us for a fun run starting at 8:30 AM. We’ll be cruising through four towns—Palko, Plainville, Stockton, and Webster Lake—honoring the memory of Tyler Wynn, a valued board member and a gearhead who helped get this whole thing rolling.
Special Attractions
The Graham County Auto and Art Museum is home to some pretty unique cars, including a 1931 Mercury once owned by Buckleland. And if you’re lucky, you might spot some memorabilia from Alice Cooper’s custom Mercedes-Benz or even a piece of the legendary J.F. Kennedy Air Force One. It’s a museum with a bit of rock ’n’ roll flair and a lot of history.
