While getting a break from working in Washington D.C., U.S. Senator Jerry Moran traveled through the Northwest part of Kansas on Friday Morning and made stops in both Colby and Goodland. Before his stops, News Director Lucas Kenney talked to the Senator on the phone to talk about his visits, as well as a cool opportunity he had to talk to the crew on the Artemis II space mission.
While in Colby, Senator Moran made an appearance at the ground-breaking ceremony for Colby Community College as they start a project to build new dormitories. Before the breaking of ground, Moran made comments to the community, including a remark noting increases in student population at CCC. Over the last decade, full-time student population has increased roughly 12%, and 16% in the last five years.
After the Senator spoke, President of Colby Community College, Seth Carter, gave out thank you's and his remarks. Others in attendance included students from CCC,, owners of Stephens Construction, Mitch and Jenna Gatz, and the Board of Trustees for CCC: Arlen Leiker, Patrick Toth, Zack Odell, Jessica Vaughn, Donna Henry, and Audrey Hines.
The shovels broke the dirt, and the project was officially started. However, Senator Moran's visit in the area wasn't quite over. After the ground-breaking ceremony, Moran continued West into Goodland to visit the National Weather Service (NWS) Office stationed there.
While there, Moran planned to announce the funding that will be provided to them and other NWS stations. The Senator was very adamant in his comments about how important NWS stations are, especially in this part of Kansas.
After Moran and Kenney discussed his visit to the area, they also talked about the Artemis II space mission. Senator Moran actually got a brief moment to talk to some of the crew in the shuttle while they were on their way back to Earth. Moran is very excited about this mission and all the amazing information and advancements that it can bring to the United States.
