On Friday, May 1, a two-vehicle accident on I-70 in Gove County left a few people with minor injuries.
Just before 3 pm on Friday, May 1, a 2015 Infiniti QX80 with a trailer attached, driven by 52-year-old Richard Villega of Colorado, was traveling Eastbound on I-70 around mile marker 111. The vehicle also had passengers, including 52-year-old Jessie Villegas, and three children ages 7, 2, and 0.
The other vehicle, a 2017 Toyota Camry, driven by 74-year-old Gary Smith of Topeka, Kansas, approached the 2015 Infiniti from the rear, striking the trailer on the passenger side after attempting an avoidance maneuver. This caused the first vehicle to slide sideways before entering the South ditch and ending on the driver's side. The Camry came to rest on the South shoulder.
All passengers in the 2015 Infiniti had suspected minor injuries and were taken to the Gove County Medical Center. Smith had no apparent injury. Everyone was wearing safety restraints.
