USD 211 Board Approves New Van Purchase, Accepts Resignations and New Hires, and Recognizes Hall of Fame Inductee

The Norton USD 211 Board of Education held a special meeting on Tuesday, April 29, at the Alice Tweed Center. Board President Michael Terry called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. with all seven members present, establishing a quorum.


Transportation Upgrade Approved

Superintendent Corey Roy recommended the district move forward with purchasing a new 2025 van to support transportation needs. The board unanimously approved the purchase of the van from Shawnee Mission Ford at a cost of $61,129, following a motion by Jennifer Miller and second by Jon Granberry.


Personnel Discussion in Executive Session

At 7:35 a.m., the board entered a 10-minute executive session to discuss personnel job assignments under the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA). Supt. Roy, along with Norton High School Principal Troy Keiswetter and Norton Junior High Principal Bill Johnson, remained in the session. The meeting returned to open session at 7:45 a.m.


Resignations and New Hires

The board accepted several staff resignations, including:

  • Bill Broeckelman, Junior High Track Coach

  • Joe Cox, Head Coach, Norton Junior High Boys Basketball

  • Rebecca Field, Assistant High School Tennis Coach

  • Samuel Field, Assistant Junior High Track Coach

The resignations were accepted on a motion by Deena Wente, seconded by Kate Sprigg, and passed unanimously.


In new personnel actions, the board approved the following hires:

  • Chalina Seems as Kindergarten Teacher at Eisenhower Elementary School

  • Greg Billips as 9-12 Social Studies Teacher and Assistant High School Boys Basketball Coach

  • Jeremy Hawks as Head High School Football Coach

  • Jordan Wahlmeier as Head High School Boys Basketball Coach

This motion also passed 7-0, following a recommendation from Supt. Roy and a motion from Wente, seconded by Ryan Kats.


Hall of Fame Recognition

In a special recognition, Supt. Roy announced that Norton Junior High Principal Bill Johnson will be inducted into the Kansas Wrestling Hall of Fame in Fall 2025. The board expressed their congratulations for this well-deserved honor.


Meeting Adjourned

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:53 a.m.
