USD 352 Goodland Schools Superintendent Bill Biermann joined the Good Neighbor Hour to discuss things happening within the school district. Those items included how the beginning of the school year started, highlights from the latest Board of Education meeting, and discussing how the fall sports season has started for the Cowboys and Cowgirls.

Firstly, Biermann talked about how well the beginning of the school year has started. He mentioned how students are doing fantastic and the new staff this year is getting acquitted quite nicely.

Next, host of the show Lucas Kenney and Biermann went through the agenda from the latest BOE meeting which took place on Monday, September 14th. Items they covered included:

  • An update from Bartz Construction about the CTE Building. Minimal updates came from them.

  • Not much of anything in the reports section of the agenda

  • A discussion about a few different negotiation agreement items

  • An approval of the master reimbursement program, which allows teachers to get a little extra help paying for classes to go towards a master's degree. The school district pays a certain amount per credit hour for these classes, providing extra incentive for teachers to continue their education

  • Another discussion was held about early retirement notice. This simply is the district asking for early notice of any teacher thinking about retiring to make the replacement process easier and allow them to start searching earlier

  • A large discussion about district capital outlay priorities. This is basically a list of what the board finds most important needs wise in the district.

The next meeting for the USD 352 Board of Education will be September 28th beginning at 6 pm.

Superintendent Biermann then went on to compliment the start that the fall sports teams have had so far, which includes a 2-0 start for the football team, a great start for the volleyball team, as well as amazing consistency from the cross county teams and the girl's golf team.

The last discussion item Kenney and Biermann discussed was the "In-Town Shuttle", a service the school district provides to kids inside the city of Goodland who may need transportation to school. This program has many stops around town, including places like West Elementary and the Goodland Activities Center.

You can listen to the Good Neighbor Hour on Rockit 102.5 KLOE every weekday morning from 6-7 am mountain time.
