Atwood wrestling advances three boys to state

The Atwood boys wrestling team has three kids advancing to the state tournament beginning Feb. 28.  The team traveled to Cimarron on Feb. 22 to compete with the rest of the region for a spot at state.  Hoxie took first with 247 points, followed by Norton with 165.5 points, and Hill City finished in third place with 142.5 points, and Atwood finished in fifth place with 61 points.


Daylan Fairchild finished in 3rd place at 285 pounds after beating Leoti’s Gavvan Castillo by fall to claim bronze.  On his way to the consolation final he beat Cimarron’s Onesimo Aragon by fall in the first round, then suffered defeat to Kingmans’ Brody Bell by fall.  In the Consolation semifinals, he beat Chapparal’s Landon Bomberger by fall to enter the consolation finals. 


At 157 pounds Eli Holle finished the day in 4th place as well as Ryan Sramek at 138 pounds, all three boys have punched their ticket to state that will begin Feb. 28 at Hays’ Gross Memorial Coliseum. 


Atwood also had six other wrestlers that were competing, but were unable to secure a spot to state, Ian Anderson, Rhys Bailey, Raleigh Hanson, Asa Popp, Tanner Vyzourek, and Gage Withington.
