Cheryl Mae (Harris) Arnberger Jackson, 79, of Colby, Kansas, passed away peacefully on October 24th, 2025, at Hays Medical Center, surrounded by love and family.
Born on September 17, 1946, in Sherman, Texas, to Raymond and Pearl (Walker) Harris, Cheryl lived a life filled with compassion, laughter, and unwavering strength. During her junior year of high school, she moved to Albany, Oregon, where she graduated from Albany Union High School with the Class of 1965. After graduation, she began her career with the telephone company in Albany, where her warm personality and dedication quickly earned her respect and friendship.
It was in Oregon where she met the love of her early life, Bruce Arnberger, who was stationed nearby with the Air Force. The two married on June 2nd, 1966, and later settled in Winona, Kansas, in the spring of 1969. Together, they built a loving home and raised two sons, David and Daryl
Throughout her life, Cheryl worked for Bell Telephone, Gillford Hill, and the American Legion, where her kindness and reliability made her a joy to work alongside. In 1978, Cheryl met Brooks Jackson, and their connection grew into a beautiful partnership. They married in 1980 and later welcomed a daughter, Lisa. Cheryl and Brooks spent many years working hand in hand at the Ramada Inn and Quality Inn in Colby, where their teamwork and hospitality touched countless lives. She later continued her career with dear friends at Lobo Liquor, where she enjoyed laughter, camaraderie, and friendship every day.
Cheryl’s world revolved around her family, friends, and animals. She cherished her time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always offering warmth, humor, and love. Known for her quick wit and playful spirit, she especially loved challenging Brooks to a good game of Scrabble—and relishing every win. Saturdays were her favorite, reserved for laughter, and heartfelt conversations with her two closest friends, “The Amigos,” Debbie Wilson and Billie Wilson. She had a deep love for music, live concerts, and cozy football gatherings in the garage surrounded by those she loved most.
The youngest of nine children, Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: four brothers—Gerald, James, Frank, and Ronald—and four sisters—Velma, Bess, Nancy, and her beloved twin sister, Meryl, who held a special place in her heart throughout her life.
Cheryl is survived by her sons, David (Shirley) Arnberger of Colby, Kansas, and Daryl (Lacey) Arnberger of Arlington, Texas; her daughters, Lisa Jackson (Mark Schneider) of Levant, Kansas, and Jenny (Scott) Lindberg Colby, Kansas. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Bruce Arnberger, Brent (Tera) Arnberger, and Madison Arnberger; great-grandchildren, Braxton and Bo Arnberger; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever carry her memory with love and gratitude.
A Celebration of Life honoring Chryl’s beautiful spirit will be held at the Columbian Hall in Colby, Kansas from 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025. Memorials may be made to the NWKS Animal Shelter and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701. For information or to leave condolences visit baalmannmortuary.com
