Cheylin Blows Through Brewster in Bulldogs Home Opener

The view in Brewster for the NWKS Radio Area Game of the Week.

Friday, September 18th was a big day for the Brewster Bulldogs, as it was their first home game in Brewster in around two decades. While that was exciting, it just wasn't their night as the very good Cheylin Cougars came to play, defeating the Bulldogs 77-0, ending the game at halftime.

From the start, it was all Cheylin. The Cougars won the coin flip, chose to receive, and it took the offense just two plays to put in their first score. Quarterback Landon Hendricks was able to find receiver Tevin Delano for a 29-yard touchdown pass. This would be one of eight offensive touchdowns for the Cougars, four of which came through the air from Hendricks.

The first quarter would then consist of a punt return for a touchdown by Andrew Mitchell of Cheylin, two more touchdown passes from Hendricks to Andrew Wright and Koen Pochop, and an interception return for a touchdown from defensive back Angel Bermudez. Bermudez would rack up five total interceptions by the end of the night. After the first 10 minutes, it was 42-0 in favor of the Cheylin Cougars.

Brewsters offense showed flashes of movement, but none of their drives would amount to any points. Cheylin's defense was just too much to handle, as the second half consisted of 3 Cougar interceptions. Cheylin would then put in 5 more touchdowns on the day, including rushing scores from Mitchell, Wright, and Bryan Santos. Hendricks would also add on another passing touchdown, while backup quarterback Landon White would tack on one of his own.

Cheylin would score a touchdown on every one of their offensive drives except the last one, which ended the game with a couple of kneel downs. The final score of the contest came out to a dominant 77-0 win for the Cheylin Cougars over the Brewster Bulldogs.

Notable stats include Cheylin quarterback Landon Hendricks was 5/6 passing for 149 yards and 4 touchdown passes, running back Andrew Wright racked up 82 rushing yards on 4 carries and 2 touchdowns, and defensive back Angel Bermudez hauled in 5 total interceptions, including one for a score.
