Colby Man Injured in Motorcycle Crash

A Colby man was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash just north of Interstate 70, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at 4:20 p.m. on September 13 along U.S. Highway 24, about half a mile north of the I-70/U.S. 24 junction in Thomas County.

Troopers say 47-year-old Gregory J. Griffin of Colby was riding a 2006 Harley Davidson northbound on U.S. 24 when he entered a curve at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle crossed the center line and continued into the west shoulder. Investigators report Griffin lost control as he crossed County Road 11, causing the bike to leave the roadway and roll in the west ditch.

Griffin, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Citizen’s Medical Center in Colby with suspected serious injuries.

The motorcycle was removed from the scene by a family member. Troopers noted that the motorcycle was insured through Progressive Direct Insurance.

The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to remind motorists—especially motorcyclists—to use caution when approaching curves and to always wear proper safety equipment.
