Excitement filled the cool Monday morning air as community members, Colby Play 315 committee members, and the Colby School Board gathered at the Colby Grade School playground for the official groundbreaking ceremony of the Colby Play 315 project. The ceremony, held at 9 a.m., marked the beginning of Phase One of the much-anticipated community playground initiative.
The first phase of the project will include new playground equipment on the east side of the playground, a learning table area, and an irrigated grass space designed to create more opportunities for students and families to learn, play, and gather together.
During the ceremony, organizers announced a major fundraising milestone. Colby Play 315 has now reached 68% of its fundraising goal, with donations and pledges totaling an impressive $720,000.
Jenna Gatz, Colby Play 315 committee member, spoke about the importance of creating accessible and inclusive play opportunities for children of all abilities while also giving Colby families a modern outdoor space to enjoy for years to come.
With Phase One officially underway, construction is expected to begin immediately this summer. Organizers say the work is scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2026-2027 school year, allowing students to enjoy the new additions as they return to class this fall.
The Colby Play 315 project continues to seek community support as fundraising efforts move forward for future phases of the playground development.
