Colby Recreation Gears Up for Basketball, Halloween Fun and a Busy Fall

The seasons may be changing, but things aren’t slowing down for the Colby Recreation Department and Colby Event Center.

Bobby Fossum with Colby Recreation stopped by NWKS Radio to share an update on youth sports, upcoming Halloween activities and what’s ahead at the Event Center.

Youth volleyball is entering its final week, while flag football is also wrapping up its season. Despite plenty of recent rain creating some challenges for practices, the fall sports season has been able to keep moving.

As those activities come to an end, attention is already turning to basketball.

Registration is currently open for youth basketball and Little Dribblers through October 12. Families can register in person, over the phone or online through the Colby Recreation Department.

Halloween Fun Begins with a Coloring Contest

Colby Recreation is also adding something new this Halloween season with a Halloween coloring contest.

Coloring sheets will be available beginning Monday and can be picked up or downloaded online. Kids can complete their artwork, add their name and age and turn it in for judging. Winners will be announced during the first week of November.

And that’s not the only Halloween fun planned.

The annual Boo Bash returns to the Colby Event Center on Tuesday, October 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will be held on the mezzanine and will feature cookies, punch, coloring activities and pumpkins for kids.

The Boo Bash is free, but families are encouraged to register ahead of time so organizers have a better idea of how many pumpkins and supplies will be needed.

Last year’s event brought in around 45 to 50 kids, and costumes are definitely encouraged.

Event Center Staying Busy

The Colby Event Center continues to see plenty of activity as well.

College volleyball is underway, while basketball is beginning to ramp up with scrimmages and the start of the season approaching. Fossum said the college’s Hometown Tournament is expected near the end of October, and high school basketball season won’t be far behind.

The Event Center isn’t just for sporting events, either.

The facility offers meeting and gathering space that can be rented for events such as birthday parties, meetings and other activities. Rental options include a kitchen, meeting room and playground area.

“We try to help everybody out,” Fossum said, noting that the facility’s busy sports schedule can sometimes make finding open dates a challenge.

And another major event is already on the horizon. The annual NWKS Radio Christmas Marketplace returns to the Colby Event Center the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Keeping Up with Colby Recreation

Residents can find registration information, activity details and game schedules online through the City of Colby’s Recreation Department website. Schedules for the different sports programs are also posted online throughout the season.

Information about renting space at the Colby Event Center is available online as well, or residents can contact the department directly.

From wrapping up fall sports to basketball, Halloween activities and a packed Event Center schedule, there’s plenty happening this fall with Colby Recreation.
