Crash Early Friday Morning in Logan County

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, the accident occurred at approximately 12:52 a.m. on U.S. Highway 40, about two miles west of Monument, near milepost 57.8.


Troopers report that a westbound 2010 Chevrolet Impala crossed the centerline roughly 410 feet west of 330th Road and struck an eastbound 2024 Kenworth semi head-on. The Impala was pushed approximately 75 feet before coming to rest in the south ditch. The semi, which was pulling two trailers, came to rest in the north ditch.


The driver of the Chevrolet, 23-year-old Jaylen Z. Cruse of Manhattan, Kansas, was transported to Colby Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. The driver of the semi, 34-year-old Mouanoutoua Van Pein of Thornton, Colorado, was not injured.


Both drivers were wearing safety restraints at the time of the crash. Authorities say the accident was not a hit-and-run and did not involve a police pursuit. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by S&M Repair.


The crash remains under investigation.
