INFO FROM FROM INTERVIEW ON GOOD NEIGHBOR HOUR---Dr. Kami Miller-Taylor didn’t have to go far to find her calling—it was waiting for her between the pastures of Rexford and Selden, Kansas. Raised on a diversified farm with cattle, crops, and even a few sheep for 4-H projects, Kami grew up knowing the value of hard work, the rhythm of rural life, and the quirks of life with three sisters (Carly, Casey, and Cassie). It’s no wonder her dad struggled to get their names right.
A graduate of Golden Plains High School, Kami went on to Kansas State University, where her love for veterinary medicine took root. She completed three years of undergraduate studies before being accepted into K-State’s veterinary program—a competitive achievement considering only around 100 students are admitted each year. Two years into vet school, she received her bachelor’s degree while continuing toward her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, which she earned in May 2023.
Kami wasted no time returning to western Kansas, launching High Point Vet Service shortly after graduation. Her practice, based in the Goodland area, serves Sherman, Thomas, Wallace, and even parts of Colorado. While she offers routine and emergency care for both large and small animals, her specialty lies in large animal medicine. From pregnancy checks and semen testing to field surgeries like C-sections, Kami’s mobile vet unit does it all—now with the help of a newly purchased portable hydraulic chute, built in Texas and ready for tough jobs on the road.

Certified in carcass-trait ultrasound scanning, Kami also works with seedstock producers to collect data that helps improve herd genetics without needing to see the animal post-harvest. Her reach stretches beyond routine calls—she’s worked as far as Manhattan and regularly supports operations in Colby, Goodland, Sharon Springs, and surrounding towns.
In addition to her mobile work, Kami also lends a hand one day a week at Work Veterinary Services in Colby, giving her access to clinic resources for situations that require it.
Looking to the future, Kami is excited about what's next—not just for herself, but for the local veterinary community. She’s already looking ahead to welcoming a new face to the area: veterinary student Rissa Boyd, who will be joining the region in about a year. Rissa has already purchased a clinic and will bring added support to a profession that’s always in demand in rural areas. Kami expressed her enthusiasm, saying how valuable Rissa’s arrival will be for the area’s producers and pet owners alike.
In the meantime, Kami’s busy schedule—and her sense of humor—keep her going. Whether she’s working calves, pulling a chute across state lines, or being lovingly roasted on-air for her choice of family and career, one thing is clear: Dr. Kami Miller-Taylor is the real deal.
And if you ask her? She’s just happy to be back home doing the work she loves.
