HOXIE, Kan. — April 24, 2025
The Hoxie Community Schools Board of Education convened a special meeting Thursday evening to address staffing updates and review plans for a major athletic facility improvement.
Held in the district boardroom, the meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Board President Michael Bretz. All seven board members—Michael Bretz, Reba White, Billi Beckman, Brett Oelke, Mitchell Baalman, Haley Herrick, and Leonard Weber—were present, along with Superintendent Sharris Werner and Board Clerk Mandy Shipley. After the flag salute and roll call, the agenda was approved unanimously.
The meeting began with the board’s acceptance of a personnel change. The resignation of Taylor Meitl, who serves as both a 7-12 office aide and a bus route driver, was officially approved and will become effective at the end of the school year on May 20, 2025. The motion passed 7-0.
A major focus of the evening was a presentation and discussion regarding the district’s proposed track renovation project. Charlie Ochs, CEO of Mammoth Sports Construction, was on hand to discuss his company’s bid and outline the project’s scope. Board members participated in an in-depth Q&A session with Ochs, reflecting the district’s ongoing effort to upgrade and maintain quality athletic facilities for students.
No further action was taken during the special meeting. The evening concluded after the scheduled agenda items were addressed.
The decisions and discussions from this meeting remain unofficial until formally approved at a subsequent board meeting.
