The Northwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging (NWKAAA) in Hays, KS received a grant for
senior nutrition services that was made possible by the 2025 Kansas Legislature and
awarded by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services.
The Area Agency on Aging’s nutrition program, HOMESTEAD Nutrition Project, will use the grant funds to
provide meal services to residents in remote areas of northwest Kansas where meal
delivery has previously been unavailable.
To be eligible for this meal service, an individual must reside in northwest Kansas, be at
least 60 years of age, live in an area where traditional meal delivery through the
HOMESTEAD Nutrition Project is not available, and complete an eligibility assessment.
Eligible recipients may receive a delivery of 10 meals every 2 weeks. Meals can be ordered
to meet dietary requirements of individuals, are microwaveable for convenience, and will
be delivered refrigerated in an insulated container.
A contribution of $5.00 per meal is suggested, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program (SNAP) benefits are also accepted. Meal service through this grant will be
available through June 30, 2026 or as long as grant dollars are available. If the grant is not
renewed, meal delivery in these remote areas will end.
“The Area Agency on Aging is grateful be able to offer older Kansans in our isolated service
areas an opportunity to receive nutritious meals. For seniors who struggle to prepare a
meal or purchase nutritious food, this service will provide essential assistance to allow
them to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible,” said Michelle
Morgan, NWKAAA Director.
To request meal services or to get more information, call the Area Agency on Aging’s
Homestead Nutrition Project office at 1-800-432-7422 or 785-628-8824.
