A two-vehicle crash on K-383 north of Norton sent one driver to the hospital Wednesday morning as dense fog covered much of Northwest Kansas. This crash closed down K-383 for about 2 hours Wednesday morning.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, the crash occurred on November 19, 2025, at 7:52 a.m. at K-383 milepost 100.1—about 4.1 miles north of K-60.
What Happened
Troopers say Vehicle 2, a 2022 Volvo semi-tractor driven by 46-year-old Vasyl Tereschenko of South Carolina, was stopped and waiting to make a turn onto Road E13.
Vehicle 1, a northbound 2010 Ford F-150 driven by 34-year-old Jessica Linn Ludowese of Norton, approached the semi and struck it from behind.
Both vehicles came to rest facing north in the northbound lane of K-383.
Injuries & Response
Ludowese was transported to Norton County Hospital with suspected minor injuries. KHP noted she was properly restrained at the time of the crash.
Tereschenko was not injured and did not require transport.
Fog & Road Conditions Played a Role in Travel Delays
Shortly after the crash, Trooper Todd with the Kansas Highway Patrol announced on Facebook that K-383 would be shut down between U.S. 36 and the Nebraska state line due to extremely low visibility from dense fog and because of the accident clean up.
The highway remained closed for approximately two hours before reopening mid-morning.
Northwest Kansas was under a Dense Fog Advisory until 10 a.m. CST, with troopers also reporting areas of frozen fog forming on bridges and overpasses—creating slick conditions for early travelers.
Safety Reminder
If you encounter fog during travel:
Use your headlights (not just daytime running lights).
Slow down and increase following distance.
Watch for slick spots, especially on bridges where frozen fog may accumulate.
