An injury crash was reported Wednesday evening in Thomas County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:42 PM on March 18th at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and County Road 31, just north of Colby.
According to the crash report, a 2016 Dodge Durango was traveling northbound on U.S. 83 and attempted to turn onto a field access road. Investigators say the vehicle was traveling too fast for the turn, causing it to leave the roadway.
The SUV went down into a ditch, where the steep drop-off caused the vehicle to roll over and come to rest on its top.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Margarita Rugama of Colby, was transported to Logan County Hospital in Oakley with suspected minor injuries. She was reported to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
⚠️ Reminder for Drivers
With changing road conditions and rural access roads across Northwest Kansas, drivers are reminded to slow down when approaching turns—especially onto gravel or field entrances where drop-offs and uneven terrain can pose additional risks.
