Longtime Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Juanita Marie Wostenberg, 95, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Hope Springs in Sharon Springs, Kansas.


Juanita was born on October 30, 1930, to Alex and Mary (Urban) Basgall. She was born at the Basgall Farm southeast of Wallace, KS. Juanita was the seventh of ten children. Her siblings included: Eugene, Edwin, Wilfred (Willie), Dolores (Bussen), Hubert (Bert), Norbert (Norb), twins George and Margaret (Chaney), and Bernice (Boyle). Juanita was the last surviving member of her immediate family.


Juanita was baptized at St. Peters Catholic Church in Wallace, KS, and continued her faith throughout her life. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church and Altar Society in Sharon Springs, KS.

Juanita attended grade school and junior high school in Wallace, KS and high school at Sharon Springs, KS, until she married Lawrence (Bud) Wostenberg on November 10, 1947. Bud and Juanita shared a double wedding with Juanita’s brother Eugene and his wife Darlene.


Together they created a beautiful family of four children; Larry, Karen, Debora (Deb) and Patricia (Pat). Juanita also enjoyed time with her multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.


Juanita was an amazing cook! She always welcomed family and friends with a roast in the oven, as well as many delicious Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter meals. Her family will always remember enjoying her wonderful pies, cookies and especially her cinnamon rolls! She enjoyed camping, boating, fishing in the mountains and area lakes, and playing games with her family. There were many great memories made! A lot of love went into knitting afghan blankets for her grandchildren, crocheting doilies for all of her friends and family, and cross stitching tea towels for anyone who needed them. Many hours were also spent at her piano playing beautiful music, which she played by ear. Her music was very important to her and enjoyed by many.


Preceding her in death were her parents Alex and Mary and all nine siblings. Her husband Bud, son Larry and daughter Karen.


Juanita is survived by her daughters Deb (Dex) See, Pat (Jim) Hays, Melody (Bill) Wallis, 9 grandkids, 14 great grandkids, and 5 great-great grandkids. She was always willing to help family whenever they were in need. Her hospitality was a blessing to many people. Juanita will be greatly missed by her family!!

Her Mass of Christian Burial will take place December, 22, 2025 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs at 10:00 AM MT. The visitation is in the same place, the Holy Ghost Catholic Church on the 21st from 4pm-6pm.
