Senator Jerry Moran continues to serve as a strong advocate for Kansans in Washington, D.C., working on a wide array of issues that affect both the state and the nation. This past week was marked by key hearings, bipartisan legislation, strategic meetings, and ongoing efforts to modernize critical systems and support rural America.
Strengthening the Skies and Supporting Veterans
Sen. Moran highlighted efforts to modernize the nation's air traffic control infrastructure. In light of recent aviation incidents, he applauded Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s initiative to overhaul outdated radar, communications, and control systems. Moran, who has worked alongside Senator Ted Cruz to solicit expert feedback, underscored the urgent need for upgrades to ensure passenger safety and accommodate growing commercial demand.
In the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Sen. Moran led a hearing with VA Secretary Doug Collins, pushing for expanded access to mental health and substance use treatment for veterans through local VA community partners. He emphasized legislation aimed at improving flexibility and accessibility for those who’ve served.
National Security, Agriculture, and Innovation
Sen. Moran chaired an Appropriations Subcommittee hearing with FBI Director Kash Patel, tackling issues from organized crime to the fentanyl crisis. He also addressed national competitiveness in artificial intelligence during a Senate Commerce hearing, where he questioned top industry leaders including Sam Altman and Lisa Su on the role of AI in rural access, cybersecurity, and data protection.
In agriculture, Moran questioned USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins on the President’s FY26 budget and emphasized staffing needs, the future of Food for Peace, and the importance of Kansas-based research facilities.
