The general election is quickly approaching with many different positions up for election. Many politicians are working on their campaigns as well as juggling other duties within being a legislator. Senate President Ty Masterson is no different, so Lucas Kenney, NWKS Radio News Director, sat down with him to talk about what his day to day life looks like between legislative session and the election, as well as a very important reminder about why it's important to vote.

Firstly, they discussed what Masterson's everyday life looks like as a legislator between legislative session and the election. Especially with him running for Governor, things have been extremely busy. Between visiting many places in Kansas, studying for debates, and other various responsibilities, Masterson is always doing something.

"Everyday is just packed...packed with trying to visit lots of parts of Kansas, making the phone calls and get out to people...Every time I thought I was busy in my life, somehow I was able to get busier."

Despite being a busy bee, Masterson always makes as much time as he can for his family. Him and his wife have six adult kids and eight grandkids, so he reserves Sunday as a family recharge day. Masterson also noted how his family is his greatest motivation to serve the Sunflower State.

"Even though my clock might run out, I've got some new clocks starting. So, I have a very deep interest in making sure this is a great state to live, work, and raise a family."

The topic then switched to debates. Not too long ago, Senator Masterson took part in a large debate with other candidates running for Governor, so the discussion revolved around the time and preparation needed for a large debate like that.

Masterson noted that it takes very extensive preparation, because you have no idea what kind of questions may be thrown at you, what attacks may be put against you, and you have to make sure you are clear on any and every stance you have.

Lastly, Masterson had an excellent message for anyone who may think their votes doesn't matter.

"Your vote does matter, and you'll never know when your vote matters the most...our races are always generally pretty close, small percentages right, so every single vote matters."

The Senator mentioned a county commission race in his home county that came down to a coin flip because the votes were tied after the caucus. Every vote in every single election matters.
