2025 NWKS Radio's Bracket

March Madness may be over, but the thrill from our NWKS Radio Bracket Challenge is still fresh in everyone’s minds! Hosted from March 17th to March 20th, this year’s contest had brackets flying off shelves as listeners across Northwest Kansas joined in the fun for their shot at a $1,500 CASH prize. Here's the inside scoop on how it all went down.

How to Play: The Bracket Challenge Breakdown

For those who participated, it was simple but exciting:

  • Start Date: Monday, March 17th at NOON

  • End Date: Thursday, March 20th at NOON

Participants made their way to any of the NWKS Radio Bracket Challenge sponsor locations to pick up a blank bracket. There was plenty of time to fill out the bracket and turn it in before the Wednesday, March 19th noon deadline. Each sponsor location gave you the chance to fill out a bracket, meaning the more locations you visited, the more chances you had to win. (But remember—only one bracket per sponsor location!)

The bracket challenge was simple: pick the winning teams for each round, with points awarded for each correct pick. The more accurate your picks, the more points you earned—leading up to that $1,500 grand prize. But the competition was fierce. Out of nearly 1,000 brackets, it came down to two final contenders, with a tie in points right before the championship game between Houston and Florida.

The Winner: Brett Gerbitz

And then… there was one! Brett Gerbitz, a proud basketball fan from Colby, was our big winner, claiming the $1,500 prize. How did he pick Florida as the winner? Brett didn’t rely on luck; he’s an avid college basketball fan, and after watching the season unfold, he knew Florida had what it took.

We caught up with Brett for a quick chat about his big win, and here’s how it went down:

Joel Navarro (NWKS Radio): “So Brett, how did you decide on Florida to win?”

Brett Gerbitz: “I’ve been watching college basketball for years. I thought Florida had the right pieces to make it all the way.”

And just like that, Brett had his pick—and it paid off!

As Brett told us, he’s already planning to use his winnings for a home improvement project. He just bought a house and is looking to build a fence. Sounds like a solid investment for that $1,500, Brett! Maybe next year, when the challenge rolls around again, you’ll help a few more people with their picks.
