It's rivalry week in the Sunflower State, as Kansas and Kansas State prepare to renew their annual football showdown Saturday in Manhattan. Both head coaches met with the media yesterday ahead of the contest. K-State's Collin Klein says his team needs to get back to the fundamentals, particularly on offense, where inconsistent execution and a lack of explosive plays have been costly. Klein also emphasized the importance of the rivalry, recalling his own playing days at Kansas State and the beginning of the Wildcats' current winning streak over the Jayhawks in 2009. On the other sideline, Kansas head coach Lance Leipold acknowledged the frustration surrounding his program's struggles against its in-state rival. Kansas has lost 17 consecutive meetings with Kansas State, dating back to its last victory in 2008. Leipold, who is winless in five tries against the Wildcats, says he understands the importance of the rivalry and the need to finally turn things around. Saturday's Sunflower Showdown kicks off at 10 o'clock Mountain Time from Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, with television coverage on FS1.
The Milwaukee Brewers are halfway to the World Series after taking a commanding two-games-to-none lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. Milwaukee rallied for a 7-4 victory Monday night, with William Contreras delivering three hits and three RBIs, including a game-tying home run and the go-ahead single. The series now shifts to Los Angeles for Game Three on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Guardians struck first in the American League Championship Series, rallying past the Tampa Bay Rays 7-3 Monday night. Nathaniel Lowe broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run single in the eighth inning, helping Cleveland take a one-game-to-none series lead. Game Two is tonight in Tampa Bay.
The Buffalo Bills escaped Los Angeles with a thrilling 37-34 overtime victory over the Rams on Monday Night Football. Buffalo led 19-14 entering the fourth quarter before the two teams combined for 35 points in a wild final period. But Buffalo ultimately prevailed in the extra period with a GW FG from Tyler Bass.
