Colby swept Hill City: 25-18, 25-21 & 25-22, improving to 4-6 on the season.

Goodland made quick work at their home triangular last night sweeping both McCook & Cheylin. Cowgirls are 6-2 to start the season.

Goodland finished third at Monday’s Ulysses Girls Golf Invitational, shooting a 402. Natalie Cure led the Cowgirls with an 87 to finish third individually, while Sadie Sederstrom tied for eighth with a 97. Colby finished fourth at 417, led by Lakyn Sims’ 99, good for a tie for 11th. Syracuse won the team title, while Sublette’s Adalyn Boone was the individual champion with an 83.

A big day for Colby Community College volleyball. The Trojans jumped eight spots to No. 8 in the latest NJCAA Division I rankings after a 5-and-0 week that included three wins over ranked opponents. Then Monday night, Colby backed up that ranking with a five-set, 3-2 road win over Hutchinson, extending its winning streak to eight straight matches. CCC hosts Seward County on Wednesday.

NFL

The Chiefs opened the season with a 31-10 win over AFC West rival Denver Monday night at Arrowhead. Patrick Mahomes accounted for three touchdowns in his return from knee surgery, while Kenneth Walker rushed for 173 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown. For Denver, Bo Nix threw for 131 yards with a touchdown to Evan Engram, but also threw an interception as the Broncos managed just 176 total yards and turned it over twice.

BASEBALL

The Rockies’ comeback came up just short Monday night, falling to San Diego 8-7 at Coors Field. Colorado trailed 6-1 before battling back, scoring three in the sixth behind a two-run triple from Jake McCarthy. Cole Carrigg homered in the seventh, and Connor Norby’s RBI double pulled Colorado within one in the eighth, but the Rockies couldn’t complete the rally. Colorado finished with 14 hits, but the loss extended its skid to eight straight games. Game two is tonight.
