Oakley Man Killed in Logan County Crash Saturday Evening

LOGAN COUNTY, Kan. — One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday evening in Logan County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. on June 20, 2026, at the intersection of County Road 430 and Apache Acre, about one mile west of U.S. Highway 83 on Apache Acre and approximately two miles south of Oakley.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling eastbound on Apache Acre while a 1989 Peterbilt semi tractor was traveling northbound on County Road 430. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Following the impact, both vehicles traveled north. The semi entered the east ditch, while the Tahoe rotated and rolled before coming to rest on County Road 430.
The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, Maynard K. Unruh, 68, of Oakley, sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was transported to Logan County Hospital. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that next of kin had been notified.
The driver of the Peterbilt, , a 15 year old, of Oakley, reported possible injuries and complained of pain, according to the crash log. No transport information was listed.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that neither driver was using a safety restraint at the time of the crash. The semi tractor was hauling a 2008 Mercury trailer.
The vehicles were removed from the scene by Butch's Body Shop.
The crash remains under investigation.
