Park Place Townhomes Open House Draws Big Crowd Despite Cold Weather




Even with temperatures in the teens and snow on the ground, interest was anything but cold Sunday as Z Tag Property Management welcomed the community to an open house at the newly constructed Park Place Townhomes in downtown Colby.


The open house was held Sunday, January 25, where four finished units were opened for tours, including both one-bedroom and two-bedroom options. The response was overwhelming, with more than 200 people walking through the townhomes throughout the afternoon.


Park Place Townhomes are located at the corner of 5th and North Court, on the former site of the old Colby Community Building. The development brings a fresh, modern look to downtown while addressing a growing need for housing in the community.


Z Tag Property Management previously completed a duplex project on 10th Street in Colby and said they enjoyed working in the community. Seeing the continued demand for housing, they jumped at the opportunity to develop the Park Place project. The company worked closely with the City of Colby, which wanted a modern design that would qualify for housing assistance programs through Kansas Housing Resources Corporation.


The project is being built in one phase with units coming available when ready, with a total of 24 townhome units planned by the end of 2026. Once complete, the development will include 6 one-bedroom units, 14 two-bedroom units, and 4 three-bedroom units. The first four units are finished and scheduled to be occupied by February 1, and the next four units are expected to be ready soon.


An architect out of Denver who specializes in similar multi-family developments was brought in to help design the townhomes, resulting in layouts that appeal to a wide range of residents and age groups.


Townhome Options

One-Bedroom | One Bath The one-bedroom townhomes offer 1,368 square feet on the main level with an open-concept floor plan and high ceilings. All appliances are included, including a washer and dryer.  Each unit includes a single-car garage.


Two-Bedroom | 2.5 Bath The two-bedroom units are two-story townhomes with 1,987 square feet of living space. The main level features an open living and kitchen area along with a half bath. Upstairs, both bedrooms have their own private bathrooms, and one unit includes an outdoor balcony. Each unit has an attached single-car garage and comes fully equipped with appliances.


Three-Bedroom | Two Bath The three-bedroom townhomes offer just under 2,200 square feet of space. The main level includes an open living and kitchen area along with one bedroom and a bath. The lofted upper level features two additional bedrooms and another bath. These units provide ample storage, attached single-car garages, and additional parking, making them ideal for multi-family living.


Utilities for all units are separate and all-electric.

Housing Investment and Community Impact

The project was supported through the Moderate Income Housing (MIH) program and Kansas Housing Investor Tax Credits (KHITC). The MIH program helps serve households that typically do not qualify for federal housing assistance, while KHITC brings private investment into communities that need additional housing to support workforce and economic growth.


Community leaders say developments like Park Place Townhomes are critical to opening up much-needed housing in Colby, helping attract new residents, employees, and businesses while strengthening downtown.
